ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Geology was established in the year 1973. It is one of the oldest departments of the college. The Department of Geology acquired its own building in 1973. Later on, the Department was shifted to newly constructed Geology/BCA Block on September1, 2014. Professor Kachroo was the first Head of the Department. He was followed by Prof. A.C. Jain, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Bhat, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone, Prof. Abdul Majid Bhat, Prof. Mohammad Syed Bhat, Dr Hamidullah Wani who led the department to the pinnacle of fame and today it is one of the leading geology departments of the Higher Education with excellent teaching and learning environment, well-equipped contemporary laboratories, a well-organized geological museum having a large collection of rare geological specimens, a Wi-Fi facility, and excellent placement records of the students. Faculty members of the Department have published their research work in reputed international journals with high impact factor like, Tectonophysics, Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, Lithosphere, island arc, current science. Research specializations of the department include Geochemistry, sedimentology, Precambrian Geology and Quaternary climate change. For BSc degree the Department presently offers Geology as one of the four subjects in science stream. The department aims
